Talking About: Hope of the Valley Mission

Before each event, we encourage you to explain where you are going to your children. Here are some suggested talking points to help your child know what to expect when we feed the hungry at the Homeless Services Center of Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission.

Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission

  • Hope of the Valley helps people in Los Angeles who are hungry, homeless, or hurting…
  • They offer “Hope, Hot Meals, Housing, Health Services and Healing” to those in need…
  • They connect volunteers and resources to people who need help…
  • They empower homeless and hungry people with knowledge, resources and skills so they can live independently…
  • Hope of the Valley has various shelters and help centers throughout Los Angeles…

People who are homeless or poor often do not have a safe, warm/cool place to go during the day…

  • Hope of the Valley’s Homeless Services Center is a “help center” that provides showers, hot meals, classes, clothing vouchers, a food pantry, and a safe place to rest…
  • It also provides medical services and housing specialists to help people become healthy and independent…

Serving Lunch to the Hungry

  • When a group of people are “hungry” or “food insecure” it means they can’t afford enough food to stay healthy…
  • This is different from when you feel “hungry” for breakfast…
  • We will go to the Homeless Services Center to serve lunch to 75-100 people who are hungry…
  • People who don’t have homes or food still have thoughts and feelings, like you.
  • We can smile and talk to the people we are serving, as being friendly is another way to help…
